Reading Strategies
Parents:
Here are some helpful hints when helping your child
with reading at home:
1. Spend at least 15 minutes each night
letting your child read TO you.
2. Read a book TO your child at least several
times a week.
3. Have your child read the text at least 2 times
to you outloud. This will help with reading fluency (the speed and smoothness in
which your child reads).
4. Ask your child questions about what
he/she read.
5. Help your child to sound out the words he/she
does not know.
6. Encourage your child! Tell them what a great
job he/she is doing!
